PETE BEST - BEATLE

THE BAND’S ORIGINAL DRUMMER The Beatles have become the biggest music phenomenon of the 20th century. Pete Best was the group’s drummer from 1960- 1962. Pete joined the Silver Beatles in August 1960 prior to the group’s first venture abroad to take up a residency playing in Hamburg, Germany, on the notorious Reeperbahn. It was here, dropping the “silver” from their name, that they became the Beatles. In Hamburg, playing eight hours a night seven nights a week for five months, the group eventually became a force that would literally shake the world. Pete Best played over 1000 live performances as a member of The Beatles in Liverpool and Hamburg and recorded 27 songs with them for Polydor Records, BBC Sessions, Decca Sessions and Parlophone-EMI. These songs, now etched into the rock and roll psyche, include My Bonnie, Love Me Do and PS I Love You. Pete played the Beatles first show in Liverpool at the Casbah Coffee Club and over 200 performances at the Cavern Club. He was a Beatle when Beatlemania began and when they were first referred to as the Fab Four. He was a Beatle when Brian Epstein signed them and when they transitioned from leathers to suits. He was a Beatle when they abandoned their quiffs for mop tops and when they were officially recognised as Liverpool’s No 1 group in the Mersey Beat Poll. He was a Beatle when they were signed to Parlophone Records by record producer George Martin and in August 1962 when a Rock and Roll mystery unfolded as Pete was dismissed, without reason, from the group. Eight weeks later the Beatles entered the record charts in Britain.
SINCE THE BEATLES Pete has recorded and released records and CD’s for Decca, Cameo, Cherry Red and Splash Records. He has completed three world tours, numerous TV appearances from Ready Steady Go to Letterman and Oprah Winfrey, performed a cameo role in the film “The Rocker” and has written three books one of which, ‘The Beatles, The True Beginnings’ became a best seller. A highlight of Pete’s career was the inclusion of ten of the tracks he played on being added to the “Beatles Anthology”. This is one of the biggest selling albums of all time. There has only ever been six people in the world who could call themselves a “Beatle” and Pete Best is one of them.
